Pop artist Faradays discovered old cassette tapes from her mother featuring gamelan music — the traditional Indonesian music that filled their living room during her childhood. She sampled percussive beats and Javanese scales, completing the sound with her characteristic intimate vocals and brooding synths.
During A Lab Cult Faradays brings her sound to the stage with a three-piece band. On August 14th, the first single from her new album will be released. This summer, she will perform at Jalan Jalan Festival and Floating Pasar Festival before participating in Popronde in the autumn.
Faradays is the stage name of songwriter and producer Karindra Perrier. She debuted with the EP Memories in 2019 and toured throughout the country as a 3voor12 Popronde Talent, 3FM KX Talent, and support act for Blaudzun and The Japanese House. Afterwards, she won the Up:Next award, giving her the opportunity to work on her gamelan record for an extended period. After years of experimentation in a creative cocoon, she has now found her gamelan-inspired signature sound found, floating between East and West, old and new.
A Lab Cult is A Lab's program line for new creators who want to develop and test their work with an audience. This includes music, dance, theater, a mix, or even an entirely new type of performance that truly comes alive on stage. We give creators the space to explore this further, as A Lab Cult is a place for experimentation. What you'll see might still change and isn't final!
