What role does art play in diplomatic negotiations? How does art contribute to strengthening human rights worldwide?
In conversation with Dewi van der Weerd (Ambassador for International Cultural Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs), Eli Berghuis (Justice & Peace, an NGO that focuses on promoting and protecting human rights worldwide) and Kai Mata (musician and activist for LGBTI+ rights, and part of Justice & Peace's Artist Safe Haven program), we explore the crucial role of art in diplomacy and human rights. We investigate how art not only transcends cultural boundaries, but is also a powerful tool for making invisible stories visible and driving social changes. Together, we'll discuss how creative expression can help break (sometimes) entrenched diplomatic patterns, promote inclusiveness, and strengthen the voices of marginalized groups around the world. This conversation offers insight into the synergy between art, activism and international cooperation, and shows how artists and diplomats can strengthen each other in the fight for justice and human rights.
We'll host two sessions: 17:30 and 18:00 in the Kaleidoscope.
