The Sondre Moshagen Lightning Trio is an energetic and innovative piano trio consisting of Sondre Moshagen (piano), Kertu Aer (double bass), and Steinar Heide Bø (drums). Their music is rooted in Moshagen's evocative, genre-defying compositions, inspired by avant-garde jazz, impressionism, serialism, and more. Within a contrasting and interactive soundscape, featuring intuitive melodies and complex rhythmic structures, the trio invites and challenges listeners to step into their captivating musical universe.
The trio met while studying at the jazz department of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in the autumn of 2022. In 2024, they were named “Young Jazz Musicians of the Year” through the prestigious Jazzintro talent program. The following year, this led to an extensive festival tour across Norway and collaborations with internationally renowned artists such as Immanuel Wilkins and Kit Downes. Their debut album, Lightning, was released in the autumn of 2025 via Jazzland Recordings and received rave reviews in publications including Aftenposten, Dagens Næringsliv, Dagsavisen, UK Vibe, Freq UK, and Citizen Jazz. This summer, the trio will release the track Forever, featuring Kit Downes.
