On Friday, March 21, 2025, we opened the façade garden with District Chairman Brahim Abid and a façade garden breakfast for the entire neighborhood. Our garden is the longest façade garden in Amsterdam (193 meters!)
Inspired by the NK Tegelwippen and with the support of the 'Groen in de Buurt' project by the Municipality of Amsterdam and the North District, more than 9,000 pavers were removed on the Badhuiskade, Overhoeksplein and Bercylaan. The plants were supplied by Noorderbloemen, an urban plant and flower farm in Amsterdam North where indigenous and organic plants are grown by growers, volunteers and participants in the Leger des Heils daily activities.
To provide the façade garden with water in a sustainable way, an innovative Rainup system has been installed that collects 12,000 liters of rainwater and returns it to the plants at the right time. The use of tap water is thus minimized.
The façade garden is now blooming beautifully. We want to personalize the garden even more by placing colorful signs in it. Signs with information about the plants and flowers, signs with drawings and perhaps signs that make it clear that the plants do not like cigarettes and plastic. Will you help us out?
