As of September 2026, the Supervisory Board of A Lab Amsterdam is looking for a new member with expertise in real estate and area development.

A Lab is a bustling incubator in Amsterdam North, located in Shell's former large laboratory. Overlooking the IJ and directly opposite Central Station, A Lab offers space for approximately 100 organizations and over 400 members. In this dynamic environment, art, culture, technology, social innovation and entrepreneurship come together.

Our mission is to facilitate a creative and inclusive community that contributes to societal and urban challenges — in particular those of the city of Amsterdam. Values such as curiosity, openness and social engagement are paramount here. This is reflected in work and meeting spaces, knowledge sharing and stimulating programming.

Supervisory Board

The Supervisory Board (Supervisory Board) of A Lab oversees the policy of the board, acts as a sounding board and guarantees the mission and continuity of the organization. A Lab endorses the Culture Governance Code and works in line with the associated principles.

As of September 2026, a vacancy will arise within the Supervisory Board for a new member with expertise in real estate and area development. Within the Board, this member will be responsible for the focus area of real estate, housing and urban embedding.

Profile

· Has proven experience with real estate, preferably within the city of Amsterdam or a similar metropolitan context;

· Has knowledge of area transformations and public-private partnerships;

· Has insight into real estate issues surrounding cultural and social functions, such as incubators and creative hubs;

· Has a relevant network with parties such as developers, corporations, policy makers and has knowledge of municipal organization and processes;

· Is able to advise on a strategic level on housing, contract formation and location positioning;

· Has experience with supervisory roles or similar contexts and insight into administrative relationships and governance;

· Has an affinity with the cultural and creative sector and understands the relationship between programming, community and space use;

· Has a connection with Amsterdam and a sense of the urban and social context;

· Is independent, socially involved and acts with integrity;

· Has an eye for diversity and inclusiveness.

Procedure and appointment

We would like to receive motivation and CVs before May 30. The selection of candidates will start in June, followed by interviews with the selection committee. Decision-making on the nomination will take place in early July, after which the appointment procedure will be completed.

We aim to be appointed by September 1, 2026, so that the new member can be trained in time. The appointment is for a period of four years, with the possibility of a one-off extension of four years.
