Construction work in A Lab - Updates

On a biweekly basis, we will post an update with the construction work in the coming weeks and when we expect any inconveniences. Updates are always accompanied by an app in the A Lab Whatsapp Group or an email.

Current projects:

- Renovation of basement studio space The work is expected to be completed in November. After this, A Lab will also make some adjustments and investments. The goal is to have the space operational by January 1, 2026.

- Repair of jointing on the Overhoeksplein / Badhuiskade facade Work will start at the end of August 2025 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.

General policy for construction works in A Lab

• The area of the work has been closed and classified as a construction site. Access is not allowed unless accompanied by one of the builders or someone from the A Lab Team.
• Substantial noise may be made on weekdays between 07:00 h and 10:00 h. Outside these times, noise pollution is not allowed unless reported at least two weeks in advance.

Expected inconvenience: ceiling drilling between 07:00AM and 10:00AM.

Ventilation works

Assembling and mounting of the new ventilation pipes

Expected inconvenience: ceiling drilling between 07:00AM and 10:00AM.

Weeks: Mon, August 18 to Sun, August 24

Scaffolding construction

Scaffolding will be erected for the restoration of the jointing. For the first six weeks, it will be located on the Overhoeksplein side, after which it will be moved to the Badhuiskade.

Expected disruption: during the construction of the scaffolding, you can expect noise disruption from scaffolding tubes being assembled. This will mainly affect Labs S01, S12 to S15, 001 to 003, 101 to 104, and 201 to 205.

Nice work, but what are they for? In order to connect and program more in the coming years, it is essential that we develop this enclosed space. The great thing is that we are already optimising the space during the renovation according to how it will be used later on. In this studio, we can provide the space for exciting cultural programming, such as A Lab Cult, as well as other activities from the building and neighborhood. This could include rehearsal space for theatre companies, music lessons and local bingo, among lots of other things. It's also great that the space will have its own toilet block and that the rest of the basement can be closed off during evening activities. This will also reduce visitor turnover in the rest of the building.
